Allocate Three Official Holidays for Muslim Eid Festivals twice Annually

The Issue

Every year our Muslim community, struggle to take time off for the two significant Eid celebrations — Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Often, we are only allowed a single-day leave, whereas other religious holidays like Christmas and Easter are given extensive breaks.

This discrepancy in holiday allowances not only challenges our ability to live out our faith but also creates an imbalance in work-life dynamics for almost 2.1 billion Muslims worldwide, making up nearly a fourth of the global population (Pew Research Center, 2015). Our Eids are moments of family connection, reflection, and joy, just like Christmas and Easter are for their celebrants. Our faith's festivals require the same level of respect and understanding.

In the spirit of equity, we call upon our local governments, workplaces, and institutions to allocate three official holidays for each Eid annually — three for Eid al-Fitr and three for Eid al-Adha. By doing so, we can ensure a more inclusive society that respects and values the rich diversity of its people.

Please support us in this endeavor to be given the same consideration for our religious festivities. Sign the petition and help us in urging these decision-makers for equal religious holiday allowances.
