Allocate Scottish Goods' Export Revenues to Scotland's GDP

The Issue

I am deeply concerned about an issue that hits close to home: the revenues derived from exporting renowned Scottish products. Goods like whisky and Scottish salmon, which are two of the UK's most substantial exports, are, as it stands, contributing to the GDP and exports records of the United Kingdom as a whole, rather than Scotland's. This implies that we, in Scotland, are losing the recognition of providing and exporting these world-renowned goods.

As an individual passionate about my Scottish identity, I genuinely believe this is a matter of justice and appropriate representation of our contributions. Our whisky, for example, is more than just a drink. Scotland produces 70% of all whisky exported from the UK, amounting to a significant £4.91 billion in 2019 alone (HM Revenue & Customs, 2020). Similarly, Scottish salmon represents about 40% of the total UK food export, signifying our relevance in the global seafood industry (Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation, 2019).

These exports are embarking from Scotland, produced by the sweat and toil of Scottish workers, thus should rightfully contribute to Scottish GDP and exports records. Our petition aims at recalibrating this economic representation. We seek the relevant bodies' immediate action to track the revenues from these commodities in a way that reflects Scotland's significant contribution to the UK export market.

We urge the responsible authorities to make these changes to recognise and respect the economic legacies of Scotland. Let's work together for a fairer representation of our beloved country's contribution to the global market. Please sign this petition to support our cause.
