Allocate Public Land in Dade County for Safe Off-Road Vehicle Riding

The Issue

Many of us, have fond memories tied to Dade county public land - of childhoods spent riding ATVs and dirt bikes, and of the stress-relieving hobby that was enjoyed. Over the years, however, every piece of rideable land has disappeared under the weight of development. What's left has been deemed off-limits for off-road riding, leaving many of us disheartened and disconnected from our passions.

This situation isn't just a disappointment to those of us who have grown up riding safely off-road, it has also led to an increase in illegal and irresponsible riding on public streets. Riders who no longer have allocated space are taking to public roads, leading to unsafe circumstances for everyone involved, an issue that is becoming an increasing concern in our community.

Keep in mind that not all public land has to be developed or designated for conservation. There is a growing body of evidence from around the U.S. to suggest that designated areas for off-road vehicle riding can exist in harmony with nature preservation, especially when effective management strategies are applied.

The state has already designated a vast majority of public land as conservation areas or transferred them to the South Florida Water Management. It's time to reassess the balance and consider the importance of recreational spaces like off-road riding areas, which could potentially alleviate the rising issue of unauthorized street riding.

Let's make a change. We need to allocate public land in Dade County as a safe space for off-road vehicle riding. This initiative doesn't only appeal to the off-road community but serves as a sensible approach to enhancing public safety and preserving the beloved hobby of many. Please sign this petition to urge our local authorities to consider our plea and make a difference in Dade County's recreational landscape.
