Town of Caledon should spray insecticide/BTK to protect trees from gypsy moth infestation
The Issue
Gypsy moths are taking over in Caledon and many areas of Ontario. For more information on this invasive species and what to do about it, check out this Ontario webpage: https://www.ontario.ca/page/gypsy-moth
But home remedies are not enough. Individual property owners could be seen spraying, scraping, collecting, etc. the larvae and the caterpillars last year and early this spring, but that is not enough. Last year it left many of our trees bare, leafless, and in poor condition. This year, these tiny bugs make it difficult to go outside and enjoy our properties. Even walk on the grass for a minute or two, and you've got them crawling all over you! Caledon property owners are feeling the stress, not to mention the damage to our trees and natural beauty of Caledon as a whole.
The Town of Caledon needs to step up and take action, like so many other municipalities are doing, and spray trees with the relevant biological agent(s) and/or insecticides to prevent this invasive species from killing our trees.
I urge you to sign the petition and share it with your neighbours and local residents of Caledon to encourage the Town of Caledon to take action.
