All job seekers should be entitled to high quality employment support from DWP
The Issue
Almost everyone knows someone looking for work.
If you, a family member or friend go to a job centre for help, are you entitled to the best possible help and support?
Does the quality of the help you receive matter?
The answer to both of these questions should be yes but in practice, it is no for most people.
It is currently a postcode lottery whether a job centre even attempts to buy a programme, let alone whether the programme is high quality and effective at getting people into work.
Not all provision is equal and DWP continuing to refuse to publish transparent performance data permeates this problem.
If programme A gets 60% into work and programme B gets 15% into work (with a similar group of jobseekers) one is obviously more useful than the other but there is no correlation between performance and winning work.
There are currently one million young people not in employment, education or training, including 750,000 graduates. There are millions over 50 classed as economically inactive but who would still like to or need to work.
There is almost no support for professionals and executives in a very difficult job market.
This petition calls for DWP to be mandated to publish all performance data, including the percentage of job outcomes achieved for every employment programme it funds or refers people to.
Quality has to be measurable and DWP need to understand why something has worked, repeat and scale it with urgency.
We don't need to wait for cumbersome, national programmes to be rolled out which will fail the majority of jobseekers. Job centres need to be clear that they have it within their responsibility to source high quality, high performing support and that everyone is entitled to it at such a pivotal point in their lives.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for a fair and efficient job-seeking system that leaves no one behind. Together, we can push for reforms that will transform the current system into one that truly supports job seekers across the county. Sign the petition and help us make meaningful, lasting change today.
