A big thank you to my neighbors and residents who made phone calls, wrote emails, letters, and visited the Alderman's office to voice their concerns about something we didn't want in our neighborhood. And to those who signed the petition(s). Kudos to us for being communicative and fair. And the the dozens of you who have 4 bars proving excellent coverage and who pledged to quit T-Mobile, thank you! We can still rip up your bills if you want, but T-Mobile did the right thing and listened to our community so there is no need to change wireless service. As for LUCHA, I hope this experience fosters a greater sensitivity to their neighbors in the future. LUCHA maybe doesn't understand that the community are the people who actually live here. They failed to engage the community and the stake-holders, and that was their mistake. Hopefully a bridge can be formed and maintained so that a neighborly relationship can be built. Let's hope that LUCHA issues a formal and public apology for calling us "opponents of affordable housing." That was not nice, it was unprofessional, and it is inaccurate. If you notice they did not attach a person's name to their statements, which is cowardly behavior. All of our actions were attached to actual names of residents which is the diplomatic and constructive method. The fact is that our petition was not against LUCHA and it wasn't against affordable housing. It was protecting our own property rights, values, and for darn's sake quite possibly our long-term health. LUCHA gives seminars about home ownership, building personal value through ownership, home improvements, etc. so it seems as though they would espouse their own philosophy but they did not support the community when a couple thousand bucks a month was dangled in front of them. Without an apology from LUCHA, we will carry on just fine but then the defining moment in understanding how LUCHA views us will stand in perpetuity and we will act accordingly. FYI they could start a garden for tenants in their sidelot for $200-$300 and could even get new dirt donated if they asked for our help or sought their own help. Again, thanks neighbors and I'm so glad we can now live without the looming fear of wireless infrastructure beaming upon us night and day. It is a Happy Day. Kurt Gippert
