Alberta is inclusive. Regardless of gender, and sexual orientation we are all included. 

But that is not the case with our health care cards that clearly do not reflect that notation. When the NDP government made it official in the summer of 2018 when the gender option X was to be included on our provincial birth certificates and drivers licences; they failed to allow that option on our provincial health care cards. 

If we, as Albertans have a lot of pride in holding ourselves accountable as an “inclusive, diverse, and accepting province” then this option should be added to our health care cards. This is important to allow the change to the Alberta Health Care cards because many transgender and non-binary individuals do not feel comfortable with the current binary system and having to choose between M and F, which are currently the only options that are on the health care cards.

Likewise, this change would also reflect Alberta as an inclusive place as in terms of our health care system and provide affirmation for the greater Alberta LGBTQ+ community, specifically those who are non-binary and transgender and those who would feel more comfortable if X was an option on the provincial health care cards.
