It is the night before...falling into the well of unknown, the swirl of the pandemic repercussions and the lousy county decisions that brought us here...into a hearing Thursday afternoon where Judge Roesch will decide whether the Ruby Meadow CEQA claim should be dismissed or not. The Judge has been fair and kind so far and I expect he understands the situation and the impacts and legal limitations or allowances that may exist better than I do. Thank you for supporting saving Ruby Meadow, that little remaining pocket of respite for the urban wildlife and a place where all can find the wonder of nature under the trees, by the creek, amongst the birdsong. We have learned so much in this "process" County Supervisor Miley has led us on. Now that we are outside the County's decision-making power, we are able to at least speak out to history and display the tragic truths of "the process" happening here in the Grove Way neighborhoods for every level of public and government to see. Decisions were made without our consent or knowledge or ability to participate in our future by people who we entrusted to serve us--and who then told us that we were too late and just can't understand this complicated gov'ment stuff. "If you don't like your zoning, you should move."
Expect better and let's keep working. I am reassured to expect better because the Brown Act says that the government exists because we granted them the power (my bolding): "In enacting this chapter, the Legislature finds and declares that the public commissions, boards and councils and the other public agencies in this State exist to aid in the conduct of the people’s business. It is the intent of the law that their actions be taken openly and that their deliberations be conducted openly. The people of this State do not yield their sovereignty to the agencies which serve them. The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created."
