Protect the Foundation of America...Rescind ALL Applications for a Risky Convention!!!
The Issue
Problem
Thanks to the U.S. Constitution, we Americans have enjoyed the benefits of liberty for more than 200 years now. But we have neglected the advice of the framers to remain an informed, moral, and vigilant people. Consequently, our government is no longer limited to its intended purpose, the protection of our God-given rights. Some well-intentioned state legislators, being alarmed by this seemingly unrestrained government, have decided that it is time to employ the previously avoided Article V provision of the U.S. Constitution to apply to Congress for a convention of state delegates to make amendments to the founding document. However appealing this attempt to bypass the U.S. Congress may be, it has always been considered risky, even by the founders themselves. And it is a solution that ignores the root of the problem...our ignorance, immorality and apathy. Without correcting this root, no amendment...or even a rewrite...would solve our problem. Our government would ignore the changed document just as it ignores the current one.
Solution
The correct solution to our problem is for WE THE PEOPLE to address the root of the problem. It only requires 3 steps. They seem daunting at first glance, but they should not be as difficult as they may seem. We now live in an age where technology allows us access to more information and better means of communication than ever before. We should therefore be the most well-informed, most organized people of all time. Step 1 is for those of us who want to preserve liberty to work together to self-educate and remain informed. But understanding doesn't necessarily cause people to make good moral choices. Virtue in the people must be restored also. This is why the church must return to its proper role in the American experiment and rekindle the fire of liberty in the hearts of the Godly. Their role in the founding years in teaching about God's plan for civil government was critical to the struggle for independence. Reverence for God's laws has always been necessary for our form of government to function properly. Therefore, Step 2 would simply require the church to STOP excluding God's will for our lives concerning proper government and BEGIN once again to teach God's instructions for ALL parts of our lives. Step 3 is probably the most difficult to accomplish, but the advantages of modern technology should also make this easier than ever. A people who have enjoyed liberty as long as we have, tend to relax and become complacent. But rights require responsibility and liberty requires vigilance. There is no way to avoid it. But once we understand liberty and we choose to remain in God's will, remaining vigilant will once again be revealed as our duty and Step 3 should be the natural result of the previous steps. This is the action that must be the result of awareness. These steps must be taken in order, however, because action without knowledge would be reckless and informed action without virtue would be foolish.
Personal story
Unfortunately, in recent years, state legislators in Alabama have made several applications to Congress for Article V conventions. As required by Article V, when 34 states submit applications, Congress must call a convention. Recent elections and other events have demonstrated 1) a loss of the ability to reason on the part of many individuals involved in government today and 2) widespread ignorance of and disregard for the principles that made America the envy of the world. An assembly of delegates taken from a cross-section of America today would, no doubt, include many individuals who would be unreasonable in their demands for compromise, putting the protections of our rights outlined in the U.S. constitution in great jeopardy. Even the well-intentioned amendments proposed by those who appreciate our form of government would likely do more harm than good. We are very close to the 34 state requirement to call a convention. Article V convention lobbyists are working harder than ever to cross that line. Alabama state legislators must rescind ALL previous applications immediately! Let's follow the example set by Nevada, where recently both Democrats and Republicans in both chambers voted unanimously on rescinding all previous resolutions to call for a constitutional convention! I urgently plead with all Alabamians who still appreciate the sacrifices the founders made to give us the best form of government the world has ever known to sign this petition to RESCIND ALL PREVIOUS APPLICATIONS FOR AN ARTICLE V CONVENTION NOW, before it's too late!
