Allow first responders to use lights and sirens in personnel vehicles

The Issue

We are in a time that homes burn faster, heart attacks and other medical emergencies happen more often and we are still stuck in the old ways. Every volunteer firefighter turns on their flashers and leaves home, work, the grocery store and most likely gets stuck behind traffic. Let’s paint the big picture! We are running out of volunteers and when we get a call sometimes we may be the only ones going because that’s all we have available. That person gets stuck behind a couple cars while enroute to a CPR in progress, think about the time we are loosing. Just because we are “volunteer” firefighters doesn’t mean we aren’t trained professionals. The two story home with a child trapped on the second floor is on fire, the child is alive but guess what is against them? Time!!! It is against us to and we are once again trying to get down two lane roads with our flashers on and nobody is moving because they have no idea where we are going. The ability to train volunteers on personal vehicle response is there and it needs to be done. The public also needs to be taught that when you see red lights come up behind them it is a fire or medical emergency and BLUE is for police. We need to catch up on time. Thank you.
