The One Show featured a segment on the treatment of disabled passengers yesterday on BBC 1 (check it out on iPlayer if you are in the UK).
Tanyalee Davis is spearheading the #scootergirl campaign after appalling treatment on trains. She was made to move from the dedicated disabled bay in order to make room for a pram. The guard then publicly shamed her by announcing over the tannoy that she was holding the train up by filming the discrimination on her phone.
This keeps happening and Northern simply apologise, claim to be investigating and then carry on picking and choosing, seemingly at random, on which occasions they will let people travel and when they will humiliate them and refuse them access to the service.
Sara Jane Harvey and her family were refused access to the platform to board a train at Blackpool North station yesterday. This happened previously in Manchester, despite the family booking rail assistance. They were assured that she would be allowed to travel yesterday by senior staff. They made it to Blackpool for their holiday but got to the station to return home and were not allowed to travel on the train and staff refused to provide an alternative.
Many people felt the need to make a formal complaint directly to Northern about this. They were inundated with complaints over the phone and online. If you would like to join those people then please feel free to contact Northern individually and complain about the treatment as well as signing this petition. Keep it factual and to the point, stating what needs to happen to make this right (ie they need to change their illegal and outdated policy, today).
