Our campaign for airport security officers to recognise that insulin pumps are medical devices that should NOT go through x-ray machines or full-body airport scanners has had great success but work must continue as we are still being let down. Please take a minute to read (and share).... As a direct result of our campaign, the Head of Security at ACI World successfully presented our issue to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which advises on global standards and recommended practices. Updated guidance material was then included in the 10th edition of ICAO’s Security Manual (Doc8973) released in September 2017. However, we are still receiving messages from insulin pump users (all over the world) who have had poor experiences at airport security. Therefore I have put together a PDF for you to take when travelling which I hope will help to clarify the situation and alleviate stress. https://www.ufofreight.com/uploads/travel-document-2018_1523351354.pdf We advise that passengers show airport security personnel this document along with medical confirmation from their practitioner so that screening may be undertaken accordingly. Over the coming weeks, I will be writing to numerous organisations and airports to remind them of the above and ask them to re-issue the guidance materials to their staff. Please keep sharing this petition on social media as the comments section enables me to approach individual airports that are not adhering to the correct protocols. https://www.change.org/p/airport-authorities-standard-policy-for-insulin-pumps-at-airport-security Finally .... we have had a lack of interest or support from insulin pump manufacturers so if you have any useful contacts, please get in touch with me on rachel@ufofreight.com. Thank you for your time. RACHEL HUMPHREY
