It is not just signatures, but the comments that people are leaving that show the REAL importance of this campaign – they reveal indisputable evidence that confusion regarding insulin pumps at airport security is prevalent and a global issue.
The solution is very simple and easy to implement which is why I am confident we can resolve this issue and insulin pump users can finally travel without stress.
OUR AIM IS FOR AIRPORTS TO RECOGNISE THAT INSULIN PUMPS ARE MEDICAL DEVICES THAT SHOULD NOT GO THROUGH X-RAY MACHINES OR FULL-BODY AIRPORT SCANNERS AND SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO SECURITY SCREENING VIA A WAND INSPECTION TO TEST FOR TRACES OF EXPLOSIVES AND THAT FAILURE TO DO SO COULD SWIFTLY CAUSE MEDICAL CONSEQUENCES.
I have been concentrating my efforts on contacting the people that can really make this change happen and I am now speaking directly with the following:
Mr Pete Lederer, Head of Security at Gatwick Airport has stated “As you and your campaign have highlighted, there can be varying degrees of understanding and service ‘delivery’. As such I and my team would be keen to explore how we can better support our passengers requiring insulin pumps and avoid situations such as the one you and others have experienced.”
Mr Andrew Haines, Chief Executive of the Civil Aviation Authority
Mr Kevin Caron, Head of Global Training & Mr Declan Collier, Chair of the World Executive Committee of Airport Council International (which serves 592 members operating 1,853 airports in 173 countries)
Mr Darren Caplan, Chief Executive & Mr Peter O’Broin, Policy Manager of Airport Operators Association (AOA)
We also have official support from JDRF, Diabetes.org.uk, Diabetes.co.uk and Animas.
We have a new Twitter account in order to raise our profile: https://twitter.com/RachelH75629209
It is great to see that Dubai Airport has taken the necessary steps to improve their procedures as a direct result from our campaign: http://tradearabia.com/touch/article/TTN/308346
There is much more happening behind the scenes and I look forward to giving you more good news very soon.
