The issue

I'm a concerned parent of children attending  a private Anglican college in Melbourne’s west.”

Recently, my child came home asking questions I wasn’t prepared for—questions about topics I believe they’re too young to fully understand. That’s when I learned that the school curriculum introduces subjects like sexual education and LGBTQ+ content at an early age.

While I absolutely support the importance of inclusivity and comprehensive education, I strongly believe that how and when we teach certain topics matters deeply. Some of these subjects are incredibly complex, and our children deserve to explore them at a pace that matches their emotional and developmental readiness.

As a parent, it’s hard to watch your child confused or anxious because the material they were exposed to didn’t match what they’re ready for. All I want is for education to be both empowering and age-appropriate.

Why This Matters

Children learn best when the material makes sense to them—not just intellectually, but emotionally. Tailoring sensitive subjects to their stage of development is essential to their wellbeing. We’re not asking for topics to be excluded—we're asking for thoughtful timing and care.

The Role of Parents

Parental involvement is not just important—it’s essential. As parents, we should be informed and included in decisions that affect what our children are learning, especially when it involves sensitive topics. When schools and families work together, children benefit from consistency, clarity, and support both at home and in the classroom.

We are asking that parents be notified and consulted before these subjects are introduced. We want to be part of the conversation—able to guide our children, ask questions, and help them process information in ways that align with our family values and their individual readiness.

What I’m Asking

Let’s find a balance. Let’s create a school environment where our children are both respected and protected—where they learn in ways that are meaningful and manageable for their age, with parents as active partners in their education.

By signing this petition, you’re standing with me and other parents who simply want the best for our kids—age-appropriate, inclusive, and thoughtful education, shaped with family involvement and care.

Thank you
