After My Child Reported Sexually Inappropriate Conduct at School — Demand Safer Schools
The Issue
My child is only five years old. At this age, children should be learning, making friends, and feeling safe in their classrooms each day. Instead, our family has been living through fear and uncertainty after my young child disclosed experiencing what he described as sexually inappropriate conduct involving an adult while at school . Since that disclosure, we have witnessed emotional distress, behavioral changes, and a loss of security that no child should have to carry simply for attending school. Law enforcement was notified and an investigation began. However, concerns about supervision practices, communication, and the preservation of critical safety evidence have raised broader questions about how schools protect young students. This petition is not only about one child. It is about whether all children are safe in environments where parents trust they will be protected. Young children depend entirely on adults and school systems to ensure their safety. When supervision is inconsistent, when adults are not clearly identifiable, when there are blind spots in hallways or transition areas, and when communication with families is delayed or unclear, children can be placed at risk. After my child’s disclosure, our family began to understand how structural gaps can exist in school safety procedures. These gaps do not only affect one child or one school — they can impact students in any community. Parents should never have to question whether their child is safe during the school day. Schools must be places of protection, transparency, and accountability. When a young child finds the courage to speak about harm or unsafe experiences, adults and institutions must respond with urgency, care, and full transparency. Incomplete safety measures, delayed communication, or missing documentation can weaken trust between families and schools. These failures can leave parents feeling powerless and children feeling unprotected. This is about prevention. This is about accountability. This is about ensuring that no child’s safety concern is overlooked. We respectfully call for: Strengthened supervision standards for early elementary students Monitored safety cameras in hallways, transition areas, and other non-private school spaces Clear adult identification and access control procedures Proper preservation and transparency of safety-related evidence when incidents are reported Immediate and timely parent notification when safety concerns arise Independent oversight or review procedures in serious child safety investigations Trauma-informed response training for school staff Comprehensive screening and background review for all adults with student access These are practical reforms that can help protect children and strengthen trust between families and schools. Protecting children is not optional. It is a shared responsibility. We urge all parents, caregivers, and community members to take this seriously. If you have ever noticed changes in your child’s behavior, fear, or discomfort that could not be explained, do not ignore it. Your voice matters. Speaking up may help protect not only your child, but others as well. By signing this petition, you are standing for child safety, accountability, and the protection of every student. You’re supporting meaningful safety improvements that can help prevent future incidents and ensure that when children speak up, systems respond with care, urgency, and accountability. Every child deserves to walk into school feeling safe. Every parent deserves confidence that their child is protected. My Child’s Disclosure Highlights Why Cameras and Accountability Matter. This petition is intended to advocate for stronger safety measures and does not seek to determine the outcome of any ongoing legal matter. Please sign and share to stand for safety, transparency, and the protection of every child !
