Affordable IVF and Accessible Adoption for Homosexual Couples in New Zealand

The issue

"Why can't two loving adults who have contemplated parenthood and are prepared to offer love, patience, and devotion come up with enough chromosomal matter to stick together and create a child?" - Scott Simon

This quote beautifully encapsulates the essence of the desire for parenthood, regardless of sexual orientation. It highlights the fundamental qualities of love, patience, and devotion that are essential for raising a child. However, it also poignantly points out the biological limitation faced by same-sex couples in traditional conception methods.

My partner and I dream of starting a family, but the high cost of IVF treatments in New Zealand, coupled with the difficulty of adoption for homosexual couples, is a significant barrier. For most heterosexual couples, having children is a right that doesn't come with an exorbitant price tag. However, for us and many other homosexual couples, we are faced with costs ranging from $11,500 to $17,000 per treatment cycle.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) has been an invaluable tool in helping countless people realize their dreams of parenthood. Yet the high costs associated with this procedure disproportionately affect homosexual couples who cannot conceive naturally.

Moreover, the adoption process presents additional challenges for homosexual couples in New Zealand, with systemic biases and legal barriers often making it even more difficult to navigate.

It's important to note that these prices and adoption hurdles do not just represent a financial and bureaucratic burden; they represent a barrier to equality. It's time for change.

We call on the New Zealand government and healthcare providers to review and reduce these costs for homosexual couples and streamline the adoption process so that everyone has equal access to starting a family regardless of their sexual orientation or financial situation.

Please sign this petition if you believe in equal opportunities for all families wishing to have children through IVF treatments or adoption in New Zealand.
