Advocating for Accountability: Peer Evaluation of Ms. Malile
The Issue
We, the students, are calling for a peer evaluation of Ms. Malile’s behavior.
Why, you may be wondering?
Over the years, Ms. Malile has developed a strong reputation for targeting students with negative remarks, belittling comments, and public embarrassment. Here are just a few examples:
When another student asked for a replacement copy of an assignment she’d forgotten at home, Ms. Malile replied, “Am I a factory? Don’t you want to help the planet?”—shaming her for a simple request.
She has also crossed serious boundaries, once saying, “I can scientifically prove that you don’t need to pee,” do I have to explain?
On one occasion, she had called a student “selfish” on her first day back from abroad.
She had gathered attention and spoke, but then shouted at a student for listening, rather than taking notes.
A student was sick and had to stay home for a couple days, when she came back, Ms Malile had asked her a question, “What do you do when you’re sick, Shopping?” She would continuously rub it in her face when she had asked her for help on a question, “You would know this if you came to school more often.”.
These all had happened in a span of three weeks, now imagine how many students she had publicly humiliated altogether?
All of these incidents, have created an environment where many of us feel neither safe, nor respected. Ms. Malile’s words and actions have caused students to cry and often leave them feeling humiliated.
It’s clear that this behavior fits the very definition of bullying: “purposely hurting, intimidating, or ridiculing someone more vulnerable, repeatedly.” In the classroom, students are naturally in a vulnerable position. This is why I am choosing to remain anonymous, please respect this.
I am shocked to learn that this behavior has been allowed to continue for years. Knowing that past reports have gone unaddressed is what encouraged me to start this petition.
Students deserve a respectful and supportive classroom—not one where we feel intimidated or embarrassed. Our goal is to address Ms. Malile’s behavior and create a healthier, more respectful environment for everyone.
