The inclusion of both biological males and trans athletes in the Women's Hockey Association of Minnesota, touted as "the largest women's hockey league in the world" has sparked a debate about safety, competitive balance, and the preservation of women's spaces in sports. This petition arises from a need to protect what previous generations fought hard to establish under Title IX rights - a safe and equal playing field for women. We are thus calling on Minnesota Hockey, the governing body of amateur hockey in the state of Minnesota, to ban biological males from participating in sanctioned women's ice hockey competition. This change is fundamental for player safety, maintaining competitive balance, and upholding the integrity of women's ice hockey leagues. Women's leagues were fought for and established to cater to female athletes, to provide them opportunities for competition, growth, and pleasure. Outsiders might argue that this petition is exclusive, however, we are not eroding opportunities but safeguarding an established space intended for biological females. It's been reported that there's a 40-50% greater risk of injury in women's sports when biological men participate (Journal of Sports Science & Medicine).
