As someone deeply patriotic and proud of our state, it's crucial to me that Alabama has a distinct and eye-catching flag. Currently, our flag is a crimson cross of St. Andrew on a field of white. This design, while historical, is undeniably similar to that of Florida. We propose a shift - to a white cross of St. Andrew on a field of crimson. This modification would maintain our homage to the St. Andrew cross while giving our flag a unique and striking visual difference. Having distinct flags further strengthens identities and fosters a sense of belonging among citizens. According to Sheila D. Moore’s "Flag Stories: Uniting Nations – Around Flags," distinct flags have a crucial role in state identity and common bond (Moore, 2010).
