Advocate for the Return and Funding of Gay Bathhouses in Los Angeles County and City

The Issue

Personal experiences of loneliness, alienation, and fear have transformed my life in ways that are indescribable. Despite advancements in gay rights, the absence of such important venues where I and others could express our sexuality freely, make personal connections, and foster a sense of camaraderie unique to us, has deeply affected our mental well-being and capabilities to succeed. The closure of gay bathhouses in Los Angeles County and City has led to increased feelings of isolation and difficulties in coping with the stresses of daily life.

Historically, gay bathhouses have served as vital spaces for gay men to socialize, network, and relax, while also providing an environment for sexual exploration and expression. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, most of these frequented spaces shut down, leading to a significant void within our community and a deterioration of mental health for many.

Therefore, we call on Los Angeles County and City officials to recognize the importance of these venues in promoting well-being and unity within the gay community. The reestablishment and public funding of gay bathhouses should be considered not just as a measure for pleasure and relaxation, but more importantly, as an essential aspect of societal infrastructure supporting mental health. An inclusive society recognizes the unique needs inherent within all its communities.

Let us promote inclusivity and diversity in our communities by bringing back these valuable spaces for gay men in Los Angeles County and City. Please sign this petition to make a difference.
