According to a report by the IUCN, these cats are now 'vulnerable' due to increased hunting and deforestation in Central and West Africa. Deforestation and hunting are endangering more than just the cats. The African rainforest, a haven of biodiversity and a crucial carbon sink, is also being devastated.

Policies against hunting these magnificent creatures and the logging of these vital forests are crucial. They are of vast importance for the ecosystem and the local communities who depend on them. I plead to governments in central and west Africa to implement stringent laws and regulations protecting these creatures and forests.

We need urgent action to ban the hunting of the African Golden Cat and to halt the logging of the breath-taking African rainforests.
