Inclusion of ABM Strand in Senior High School Curriculum

Inclusion of ABM Strand in Senior High School Curriculum
The Issue
Introduction:
The lack of inclusion of ABM strand in the senior high school curriculum presents a problem for students who wish to pursue a career in business, accounting, and management. It deprives them of the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge that can be used in the workforce. Additionally, it creates a gap in the education system that needs to be addressed to provide students with a well-rounded education.
Problem:
There are various issues with the senior high school curriculum lacking the ABM strand. First off, it restricts the options available to students who want to work in business, accounting, or management. Second, it robs the nation of potential business leaders and entrepreneurs who could support the country's economic development. Finally, it leaves a hole in the educational system that must be filled if pupils are to receive a well-rounded education. According to a study by the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) in 2017, the absence of ABM strand in the senior high school curriculum has limited the choices of students who wish to pursue a career in business, accounting, and management. The study found that only 17% of students in senior high schools across the country chose ABM strand, while the majority opted for other strands such as STEM, HUMSS, and General Academic Strand (GAS) (PBEd, 2017). This indicates a gap in the education system that needs to be addressed to provide students with a well-rounded education that includes practical skills and knowledge that can be used in the workforce.
Solution:
The Department of Education (DepEd) should incorporate the ABM strand into the senior high school curriculum in order to solve this issue. By doing this, it will give students a thorough education that includes useful skills that they can apply in the workplace. Additionally, it will prepare students for graduate studies in areas including entrepreneurship, business management, and accounting.
Benefits:
There are various advantages to having an ABM strand in the senior high school curriculum. First off, it will give students the chance to investigate the business, accounting, and management fields while assisting them in determining their professional objectives. Second, it will provide a pool of future entrepreneurs and business leaders who can help the nation's economy thrive. Last but not least, it will give students a well-rounded education that incorporates useful knowledge and abilities that can be applied in the workplace.
