Advocate for Posthumous Congressional Medal of Honor for Harriet Tubman

Advocate for Posthumous Congressional Medal of Honor for Harriet Tubman
The Issue
As a U.S. veteran, I've witnessed first hand the sacrifices made by women and people of color in our military. Like Harriet Tubman, many have demonstrated bravery, selflessness, and a tireless dedication to our nation. This petition urges the United States Congress to posthumously award Harriet Tubman with the Congressional Medal of Honor as recognition of her remarkable accomplishments and sacrifices, and as a tribute to all women and people of color who have given immeasurably to our country.
Harriet Tubman was a beacon of light amidst the dark era of slavery. She successfully conducted approximately 70 enslaved people to freedom via the Underground Railroad and acted as a spy for the Union Army during the Civil War, driving crucial contributions to the war effort and embodying the audacity and spirit akin to medal recipients.
The Congressional Medal of Honor, our nation's highest military decoration, is "awarded for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of one’s life above and beyond the call of duty." Tubman's courage in the face of adversity, personally risking her life for the freedom of others, could not align better with such criteria. Her influence endures in the resistance against racial prejudice and her unwavering pursuit of freedom for all.
Recognizing Harriet Tubman with the Congressional Medal of Honor is more than a gesture of gratitude; it's a testament to our nation's commitment to acknowledging those who have been overlooked for too long. Therefore, it's time the United States Congress honor Tubman with the respect she deserves. We owe it to Tubman, to every woman, and to every person of color in this country who have given more than most of us can imagine. Please, sign this petition and help make this award a reality.
