Advocate for Officially Sanctioning Frontier as a Format by Wizards of the Coast

The Issue

Untap, upkeep- Draw!

Dear Wizards of the Coast,

As dedicated Magic: The Gathering players, we are seeking the official sanctioning of the rebranded "Frontier" format by Wizards of the Coast. This format offers a renewed approach to Standard, addressing past challenges and incorporating innovative solutions to enhance gameplay and community engagement.

Proposed Rebrand:

Updated Format: Rebranding "Frontier" as the 2-year Standard we would have had, before the 3-year extension introduced with Wilds of Eldraine, could effectively resolve several issues while catering to diverse player preferences. The original "Frontier", which evolved into Pioneer, suffered from staleness due to its static card pool and eventually lost traction. Rebranding "Frontier" in this way would revitalize its concept, aligning with its name, which implies new and unexplored territory by offering a faster, more dynamic format. It would address the current Standard’s longer 3-year rotation, appealing to players who miss the quicker updates of the old Standard. This new "Frontier" would provide a fresh, engaging experience that reflects its name’s promise of innovation and exploration, bridging the gap between the original "Frontier’s" intent and the evolving preferences of today’s players.

Draft Experience: The rebranded "Frontier" proposes a draft experience of one pack from each of the latest three sets. This ensures that drafting remains fresh and relevant, while also allowing for diverse card interactions and strategies.

Impacts:

Content Creation: "Frontier" provides content creators with fresh and dynamic material for streams and videos. Regular updates and a stable card pool offer engaging content, fostering greater visibility and enjoyment of Magic: The Gathering.

Local Game Shops: By introducing a format with a balanced rotation and inclusion of recent sets, "Frontier" can increase participation in local events, driving foot traffic and card sales. This supports the vitality of local game stores and enhances community engagement.

Plan of Action:

General Consensus: Players have expressed a strong interest in a format that extends Standard gameplay while ensuring stability. Many are eager to engage with a format where they can enjoy a dynamic yet predictable play environment if they know their opponents are also invested.

Digital Exclusive Environments: We propose the integration of the rebranded "Frontier" format into both MTGO and MTGA. This includes offering the draft experience of one pack from each of the latest three sets to enhance accessibility and engagement.

Host and Showcase Events: We plan to organize both local and online "Frontier" events to demonstrate the format’s appeal and benefits, and to gather player feedback.

Refine and Improve Drafting: We will work to continuously assess and improve the "Frontier" draft format based on community input, ensuring a balanced and enjoyable experience.

Advocate: Engaging with the Magic: The Gathering community, including content creators and influencers, will help build support and visibility for "Frontier."

Gather Feedback: We will actively collect and incorporate player feedback to ensure the format evolves to meet the community’s needs.

Conclusion:

The rebranded "Frontier" format represents a meaningful evolution of Standard play, addressing previous challenges and offering a balanced, engaging experience for players. By officially recognizing and supporting this format, Wizards of the Coast can enhance the Magic: The Gathering experience for both new and seasoned players.

We invite you to support the recognition and promotion of the rebranded "Frontier" format. Your endorsement will help shape a more dynamic and enjoyable Magic: The Gathering environment.

Thank you for your consideration.

With that, pass the turn.
