Advocate for Fair Subsidies in Greater London's Low-Income Communities

Advocate for Fair Subsidies in Greater London's Low-Income Communities
The Issue
As local citizens of the Borough of Hounslow, we have personally experienced the negative effects of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). We believe that our community, along with other low-income communities in greater London’s suburban boroughs, deserves fair and sufficient subsidies. The current ULEZ scheme imposes financial burdens on those least able to afford them, including expensive daily congestion charge fees of £12.50 and low subsidies of just £2000 when trading in a non-ULEZ-compliant car (AAUW, 2024).
According to a study by Trust for London, 27% of Londoners live below the poverty line. This figure is even higher in outer boroughs like ours where public transportation options are limited and residents rely heavily on personal vehicles. The additional charges imposed by ULEZ can be crippling for low-income households.
We aim to lobby those with power to make changes - including Mayor Sadiq Khan, the City of London Council and the UK government - urging them to review and revise current subsidies provided under the ULEZ scheme.
Our campaign will employ a variety of strategies aimed at raising awareness about this issue and ensuring that those involved in implementing this scheme are held accountable. These will include engaging propaganda, letters to the named stakeholders and this petition. We need your support to make our voices heard.
By signing this petition, you stand with us in advocating for fairer subsidies that take into account both environmental concerns as well as economic realities currently faced by many residents across greater London's suburban boroughs. Sign today!
