Advocate for Cosmetologist and Barber License Plates in Alabama
The Issue
As a licensed cosmetologist who has dedicated countless hours sharpening my skills and improving my craft, I see a need - a need for the recognition of professionals in the beauty industry. We demand that the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, and the state at large, recognize us with license plates designated for our profession.
In Alabama, so many professions are recognized with designated license plates: educators, military service members, nurses, firefighters... the list goes on. However, there is a glaring omission. Despite the considerable commitment and dedication needed to become a cosmetologist or barber, our profession is not acknowledged on these plates. This lack of representation fails to honor a sector that adds value and richness to our culture and economy.
The beauty industry is a booming sector in Alabama. According to the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, as of 2020, there are over 16,500 licensed professionals in this field. That number continues to grow year after year, proving the steadfast dedication of our industry professionals.
By acknowledging our profession on license plates we offer a sense of identity and recognition to those who have worked ardently to earn their licensure. Furthermore, it provides an opportunity for us to showcase our pride in our profession, encouraging others to understand its importance and value.
For the above reasons, we call on the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering and the State of Alabama to acknowledge the hard work of cosmetologists and barbers by approving the designation of a license plate for our esteemed profession. Please, make your voice heard by signing this petition.
