Advocate for concurrent sentencing for Yorrie Abrahams

Advocate for concurrent sentencing for Yorrie Abrahams
The Issue

Yorrie Abrahams was arrested and charged with possession of firearms by a felon, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and unlawful possession of an ounce of cannabis. The firearms in question were legally registered and owned by Yorrie’s adult son. The marijuana was for Yorrie’s personal use, not for sale or distribution. Despite the lack of evidence suggesting criminal intent or trafficking, the charges were escalated based on assumptions rather than facts.
This petition calls for a fair and compassionate review of Yorrie’s case. The circumstances do not reflect a threat to public safety, and the charges should be reconsidered in light of the actual facts.
Yorrie Abrahams is the founder of 400 Strong Community Response Team and a long-standing community leader who organizes emergency meals, supports victims of fires and abuse, and provides steady help for neighbors in crisis. He has spent decades serving Manchester’s most vulnerable people and building essential local supports.

Yorrie was recently sentenced to two consecutive terms of 3.5 to 7 years. This outcome will remove a crucial community resource for many years, severely disrupting services that neighbors rely on. We are not asking for leniency that ignores accountability. We respectfully request the court reconsider and order that his sentences run concurrently so his period of separation from the community is fair and proportionate. We believe concurrent sentencing in this case:
• Better reflects Yorrie’s demonstrated record of community service;
• Reduces undue hardship on families and organizations reliant on his leadership;
• Promotes rehabilitation while still upholding accountability.
Sign to ask the Manchester Superior Court to exercise discretion and impose concurrent sentences so Yorrie can return to the community and continue the vital work he has done for so many.
