Advocate for a Resource and Hygiene Centre for the Homeless in Westbank Centre
The Issue
In West Kelowna's Westbank Centre, there are 70-75 people living without the basic human necessities. These individuals cannot access housing, toilets, showers, laundry machines, food, or water. If this situation continues, it is not only them who suffer, but our entire community too. I personally feel the pinch of this situation, witnessing the struggle every day.
Today, we call for action. A lack of adequate facilities in West Kelowna, BC, Canada prevents our community from supporting people experiencing homelessness. We believe the optimal solution is to establish a resource and hygiene Centre.
This centre will provide essential services such as clean water, food, clothing, shelter, comprehensive support for mental and physical health, among others. Additionally, it will provide sanitary facilities including showers and toilets - amenities that many of us take for granted but are luxury to some.
According to Canada's National Housing Strategy, everyone deserves an opportunity for a safe and affordable place to call home, where they can be proud of where they live. Unfortunately, Westbank Centre is currently not providing its citizens with such opportunities. This must change.
We urgently ask for support from our community members to support the social service sector partners and our community at large to open a resource and hygiene Centre in Westbank Centre, West Kelowna. Let us, collectively, not only observe the struggle but make a tangible difference.
Join us by signing this petition-stand with those who have been marginalized out of a place to stand.
