For over three decades, roller hockey has been more than just a sport to me; it's been a pivotal part of my identity. With a passion ignited 33 years ago, I have not only played but have had the privilege of sharing this love with my family. My two children, immersed in the sport for the last 11 years, have grown under its influence. In my role as a coach and director, I've fostered community spirit, spearheading youth and adult recreational leagues for over eight years and forming a competitive travel team that has thrived for nearly six years.

The love for hockey runs deep here in Jacksonville and the surrounding areas, fueled by the excitement brought by the Jacksonville Icemen. Yet, this passion faces a hurdle: we are limited by the availability and high cost associated with private facilities. Currently, our community relies on limited floor time at public skating rinks, where access isn't always guaranteed, and expenses are steep.

We propose constructing an outdoor roller hockey rink that is open to the public and managed by a community-based board of directors. This facility wouldn't just foster recreational activity for amateurs and enthusiasts alike but would serve as a beacon for community spirit, inclusivity, and healthy living. Establishing an accessible home for roller hockey would mean that residents of all ages could engage in this beloved sport without daunting financial and logistical barriers.

There is a substantial demand for such an amenity within our community. According to recent data, the Jacksonville area ranks among the top in Florida for youth and adult hockey participation. Additionally, the presence of the Jacksonville Icemen underscores a robust community interest in hockey, as evidenced by high attendance rates and supporter engagement.

With secured land from the city or county and under the guidance of a dedicated board, we can ensure that the outdoor rink remains well-maintained, accessible, and reflective of our community's spirit and needs. Such a project can be funded through a mixture of public funds, local sponsorships, and grants, making it a feasible endeavor.
