Advocate Eurostar to Allow Pets on Board To and From the UK
The Issue
I am a frequent traveller who loves to travel with my Westie, Wylie. Yet every trip to the UK with Wylie becomes a major ordeal due to the lack of pet-friendly travel options. It's currently impossible to fly with pets either in the cabin or as excess baggage into the UK. The only option to fly into the UK with your pet is as manifest cargo which is not only expensive but not a nice way for pets to travel. As it stands, pet owners have to opt for the Eurotunnel or ferries which are significantly time-consuming. Or a private jet which is an eye wateringly expensive. Consequently, such restricted options make it difficult for pet owners to travel freely with their companions to and from the UK.
We need to change this. We call on Eurostar to review their policy. To date, Eurostar does not allow pets on board their trains to the UK, a mode of transport which could provide an ideal solution to this problem.
Yet, train operators in both the UK and Europe allow pets to travel on board. Eurostar themselves even allow pets on board between Belgium, France, Germany & Netherlands! But not to or from the UK.
With your signature, we can take a stride forward and advocate an inclusive revision of this policy.
Lending weight to this call for change, it's important to note that pets are important to UK citizens. According to the Pet Food Manufacturers' Association, 50% of UK adults own a pet. That's millions of people potentially affected by the current travel constrictions. On top of that there are millions of others outside of the UK that would like to travel there for holidays and expats who want to return home to visit friends and family.
This is not just about Wylie and me, but a large proportion of the population who consider their pets as an integral part of their family.
It's high time we transformed the problematic travel situation for pet owners into a more convenient, less stressful experience. Together, we can urge Eurostar to rethink their regulations and embark on a journey towards a more inclusive travel policy for our beloved pets. Please, sign this petition.
