Close the BC-Alberta border to non-essential traffic prior to the Easter weekend.

The Issue

In spite of orders from the Public Health Office and British Columbia's Ministry of Health to stay home, with regards to the Covid-19 Pandemic, non-essential traffic continues to flood the small communities along the BC-Alberta border. Our small community hospitals don't have the resources to manage an increase in infections nor can precious beds be spared for other potential health emergencies by travellers. In addition, small grocery stores and suppliers may not have the ability to maintain inventory to an influx of travellers to the region both over the Easter weekend and beyond. Most small businesses, national & provincial parks as well as recreation sites are already closed.

In an effort to contain transmission of the Covid-19 Virus, protect small communities and prevent further infections, we the undersigned, are requesting that the Provincial Government, the British Columbia Ministry of Health and the Public Health Office of British Columbia immediately close the BC-Alberta border to all non-essential travel effective 12:00PM on Thursday April 9, 2020. We ask that this border restriction remain in place until the State of Emergency declared by the Province of British Columbia is lifted.

Thank you!
