Working at an animal hospital has opened my eyes to the widespread issue of animal cruelty in Joplin, Missouri. Each day, I treat animals who have been victims of severe neglect and abuse, and it is absolutely heartbreaking. Despite existing laws designed to protect these innocent creatures, enforcement is sadly lacking. Myself and many other concerned citizens have repeatedly reached out to local authorities, but the consequences for abusers remain insufficient.

Missouri has established laws to combat animal cruelty, aiming to hold offenders accountable and protect pets from harm. Yet, without strict enforcement, these laws are merely words on paper. The local law enforcement community, including Joplin Police and Sheriff departments, must adopt and implement strict protocols to ensure these laws are actively enforced.

Animal cruelty is not just an animal welfare issue; it's a community safety issue. Studies have shown that individuals who mistreat animals are more likely to commit violent acts against people. By holding offenders accountable, Joplin can become a safer place for all its residents, both human and animal.

We propose that Joplin Police & Sheriff departments receive specialized training to identify and handle animal cruelty cases effectively.
