Each day, I watch as young students rush across bustling roads without assistance. The current crossing guard schedule of 7:30-8am does not cater adequately to the needs of these students, since the bell at Prince Charles only rings at 8:03, and the one at NDSS at 8:10. This misalignment is a significant safety concern.

Recent data from Transport Canada highlights that pedestrian injuries remain a leading cause of injury-related deaths for Canadian children younger than 14 (Transport Canada, 2019). So it is urgent that we mitigate this daily risk our children face. By adjusting the crossing guard times from 7:30-8am to 7:45-8:15am, we are taking a proactive step to guarantee their safety.

Our children's safety is our top priority. Let's urge the town of Greater Napanee to adjust the crossing guard times to ensure that our young ones are supported and protected on their daily journeys to school. It's a simple, practical action we can take right now for their well-being.
