The Issue

I'm a student in the Wentzville School District, and like many of my peers, I am tired. We pour our hearts and effort into our classwork, only to see our grades fall sharply due to one badly performed test. The current distribution of grading weight, with 70% going to tests and a mere 30% to classwork, does not reflect the true effort we put into our studies.

A large number of students across the district are feeling the same frustration. The discord between effort and success is incredibly demotivating, which in turn impacts our overall academic performance.

Studies have shown that a fairer distribution of grades between tests and classwork can greatly improve the quality of learning, boosting not only academic motivation but also students' self-confidence. According to the National Education Association, a balanced grading system that reflects effort as well as knowledge encourages active student participation and promotes learning (NEA, 2019).

It's time we re-look our grading policies and align them with our academic demands, making it beneficial for all. Our proposal is to adjust the grading weights to a fair 50/50 distribution for test scores and classwork.

By signing this petition, you're supporting a change that puts students first, promotes fair grading, and fosters an environment conducive to genuine learning. Help us make education a positive and fair experience for every Wentzville School District student. Sign the petition today!
