We students have personally witnessed the detrimental effects of the janitorial shortage in our own school, from unclean restrooms to poorly sanitized classrooms. The lack of custodians has directly impacted the hygiene standards, creating an unhealthy and unsafe learning environment for the students. Studies have shown that poor sanitation in schools can lead to higher rates of illness and absenteeism, which in turn affects student performance (Source: ABS Journal of Community Health). It's statically proven that improved cleanliness results in higher academic engagement and productivity (Source: Journal of School Health).

We believe it’s time to elevate the conversation about the dire need for more custodians at our schools to maintain high sanitation standards, and reduce the amount of stress on the current custodians. All students have the right to learn in a clean environment, and our janitors shouldn't have to shoulder such a heavy workload. To ensure this, we must direct our school district's focus to prioritize hiring more custodians for each campus, rather than neglecting this critical area.
