I am writing to share my frustration and deep concern over the continuously rising utility prices imposed by JEA, our local utility provider in Jacksonville. Over the past several months, my family and I have noticed a sharp increase in our monthly utility bills. The increase is frankly shocking, especially since the level of service has remained the same, if not worse. Many of us feel like we're being robbed by the very organization that's supposed to serve and support our community.

The consistent price hikes are placing a significant financial burden on many families, including mine, who are already living paycheck to paycheck. The lack of empathy and apparent indifference from the JEA board to the financial struggles of the community is extremely disappointing. They seem detached from the harsh realities that many of us are living. We work hard to make ends meet, and these constant increases in utility costs are driving us closer to financial desperation.

It’s time for JEA to reconsider their pricing policies. Instead of continuing to burden their customers, they should seek out more efficient, cost-effective ways of providing their services. Options such as investing in renewable energy resources, which could reduce costs in the long term, or improving infrastructure to prevent energy waste, must be seriously explored.

Moreover, JEA should increase transparency in how they set their rates and make decisions. Customers deserve to know why their bills are increasing and be assured that any costs are both necessary and justified. We also urge the establishment of an oversight committee to ensure that all rate increases are ethically grounded and reflect genuine service improvements.

This petition calls for the JEA board and relevant city officials to put their community first and take immediate steps to alleviate this financial strain by halting unchecked rate increases and reevaluating current utility pricing. Our community deserves affordable utility services that ensure every family can heat their homes, run their appliances, and maintain their livelihoods without fear of price gouging.
