The Issue
I have been a long-term member of Aura Trim, a place that has been essential to my health and well-being, especially at the age of 69. As a senior citizen, these classes have been a cornerstone of my physical and mental health routine. However, recent changes have dramatically impacted not only my experience, but also those of countless others who rely on these facilities.
Starting from the 1st of January 2026, Aura Trim has removed concessions and discounts for older adults, with little to no warning. This sudden increase in membership fees and direct debits has placed a financial strain on many of us who count on these services to stay healthy and engaged. These decisions were made without considering the needs and circumstances of the OAPs and other loyal members.
Moreover, while membership costs have risen, the quality of services has deteriorated. There is insufficient maintenance, making the premises less enjoyable and potentially less safe. Pool hours have been cut back significantly due to the return of school children's classes, leaving less time for adult swimmers. Classes are overcrowded, reducing the quality of instruction and making it difficult for instructors, many of whom are struggling with little to no experience, to manage effectively.
These changes have sparked frustrations among the members and staff, as the core mission of promoting health and well-being appears to be side-stepped in favor of profit. Aura Trim should be a place that supports its community, providing opportunities for everyone to lead healthier lives, regardless of age or financial standing.
We call upon the management of Aura Trim to consider immediate action to prevent further alienation of its loyal member base. This includes reinstating concessions for OAPs, reassessing membership cost hikes, improving maintenance of facilities, extending pool hours for adult use, and ensuring instructors receive adequate training.
