You may know that since December 2025 there has been a serious breach in the stream to the north of Postford House, Albury which has resulted in complete lack of water for all those downstream. The breach occurred on Network Rail land but, despite an assessment by the Environment Agency that the repair was Network Rail’s responsibility, they have done nothing to resolve the situation. Wildlife, businesses and heritage sites such as the Gunpowder Mills and Great Tangley Manor are now suffering and Network Rail need to take ownership of the situation and resolve it with immediate effect.

The situation is dire. The once picturesque lakes and waterways are now dry, leaving a decaying landscape in its wake. The historical and aesthetic loss is devastating as is the effect on the wildlife that relies on this water source

Network Rail, as the property owner where the breach occurred, must take immediate action to repair the stream and restore the natural watercourse. Without immediate action, both the local environment and the communities relying on these water sources are at risk.

We must act now to preserve our region's historical heritage and natural habitat. The environmental and economic impact is severe, but it can be reversed if Network Rail promptly repairs the breach. This negligence is not just an inconvenience but a threat to our community's cultural legacy and livelihoods.
