Address concerns in Welsh domestic football's online activities
The Issue
Dear FAW Officials,
We are writing to express deep concerns regarding the online activities, social media tactics, and digital promotion surrounding Welsh domestic football—specifically focusing on the actions and online presence of Andrew Ruscoe.
While innovation in sports marketing is welcome, the current trajectory of digital output associated with these campaigns is damaging the reputation of the Cymru Premier and Welsh domestic football as a whole.
1. Lowering Professional Standards via Low-Quality AI Content
The widespread deployment of AI-generated videos, altered media, and deepfake-style promotional clips undermines the credibility of our league. Domestic Welsh football has made remarkable strides on the pitch and in European competitions. Framing our league through overproduced, deceptive, or artificial media risks turning Welsh football into a subject of online mockery rather than a respected sporting product.
2. Aggressive Social Media Tactics and Online Culture
A healthy digital ecosystem relies on constructive engagement. The persistent allegations regarding automated reply bots, aggressive posting strategies, and hostile interactions toward fans, journalists, and volunteers who voice disagreement are unacceptable. Social media behavior that harasses or alienates members of our own football community creates a toxic environment and directly contradicts the FAW’s values of respect and inclusion.
3. Protection of the Cymru Premier Brand
The FAW has worked tirelessly to build a brand that reflects local communities, competitive integrity, and grassroots pride. Allowing high-profile individuals to engage in disruptive, sensationalist, or misleading online tactics harms the perceived professionalism of the entire pyramid, turning potential commercial sponsors and traditional supporters away.
We urge the Football Association of Wales to review social media guidelines for official club representatives, digital contractors, and prominent figures within the league, and to issue clear boundaries regarding the ethical use of artificial intelligence and acceptable online conduct.
