Filmed four days after the second Rat Poison Drop on the Hawaiian island of Lehua, this video shows several dead fish and two seabirds surrounded by many poisonous pellets that are lying along the shoreline and floating in the water. Government agencies have taken the animal carcasses for testing. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in partnership with Island Conservation and Bell Laboratories, have planned a final helicopter drop of rat poison on Lehua. We are waiting to hear when this drop will occur, as well as the test results of the fish and birds. An additional helicopter drop of an even more toxic rat poison is planned for next summer. Island Conservation has been, and is continuing to plan and implement these poison drops in other places in Hawai`i too, as well as on islands in Alaska, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Mexico, South America, and the Pacific.
