Add Traffic Lights to the box junction at Station Road, Corstorphine
The Issue
To add traffic lights to the junction of Station Road at St John's Road and remove the set at Rosa Nails.
Every day, as I assist vulnerable customers trying to cross the road at Station Road in Corstorphine, Edinburgh, I witness the urgent need for enhanced traffic management. This busy junction presents significant challenges and risks, particularly for elderly and disabled pedestrians, who struggle to navigate the intersection safely amidst a constant stream of vehicles. There are also many families taking young children to school.
The absence of proper traffic control at this junction has led to frequent disruptions, with traffic often gridlocked and drivers attempting dangerous maneuvers to break free. The Crossing at the Post office needs to be removed as most pedestrians cross the main road closer to the bus stop heading to town. It is distressing to see pedestrians hesitating and seeking help to cross, while drivers and passengers become increasingly frustrated. Also causes congestion which adds to emissions and is detrimental to public health.
Incorporating a boxed junction complemented by traffic lights can be a straightforward yet powerful solution to this ongoing issue. Box junctions, marked by yellow grids, prevent vehicles from entering unless the exit is clear, thus keeping the intersection free-flowing and reducing congestion. Traffic lights would provide a regulated flow, ensuring that pedestrians cyclists and vehicles can move safely and efficiently.
Many cities across the UK have successfully implemented similar measures, yielding positive results such as decreased roadway incidents and enhanced pedestrian safety.
By introducing such measures at Station Road, Corstorphine, we will not only protect our most vulnerable residents but also improve the overall quality of life for everyone using this busy thoroughfare. Let's make Corstorphine a safer, more accessible place for all.
Please sign this petition to urge the local council to take action and implement a boxed junction with traffic lights at Station Road and St John's road, ensuring humane and effective traffic management for the benefit of the entire community.
