The Issue

The Issue
This petition calls on the Department for Education to include skateboarding as an approved activity option within GCSE Physical Education in England.

Right now, students taking GCSE PE in England cannot select skateboarding for assessment because it is not included on the approved activity list. Yet skateboarding is an established, coached sport with clear physical and wellbeing benefits, and it has been part of the Olympic programme since Tokyo 2020.

Importantly, Northern Ireland and Wales have already added skateboarding to the approved list of sports for their GCSE Physical Education qualification (for first teaching from September 2026) — demonstrating that formal inclusion is feasible and can be assessed in a structured way.

Skateboarding develops key outcomes aligned with GCSE PE aims: physical literacy (balance, coordination, agility), resilience, decision-making, and sustained practice. It can also engage pupils who feel excluded from traditional team sports — supporting motivation and participation in PE.

We are asking for skateboarding to be added to the approved activity options for GCSE PE in England, so pupils can be assessed fairly in an activity they train for seriously, within a robust and standardised framework.

Please sign this petition to support a modern, inclusive GCSE PE offer that reflects how young people move today.
