The Balkan region is becoming increasingly popular for tourism, relocation, and long-term living.

Countries such as Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina are seeing steady growth in international visitors and expats. At the same time, Serbian (as part of the Serbo-Croatian language continuum) enables communication across multiple countries, making it highly practical for real-life use.

For example, according to Total Croatia, Croatia alone will have about 21.8 million tourists in 2025. Montenegro is also gaining popularity as a tourist destination, with about 2.6 million tourists in 2025.

Despite this, there is currently no high-quality, structured way to learn Serbian through major language-learning platforms. Existing resources often lack: structured learning paths, proper grammar explanations, sufficient vocabulary and high-quality audio.

Duolingo has the opportunity to fill this gap and provide access to a language that serves an entire region.

Adding Serbian would not only meet an existing demand but also expand Duolingo’s reach into a growing and globally relevant market.

We, the undersigned, would like to see Serbian added as a course on Duolingo.
