Letterboxd has become the home for film lovers around the world to track what they watch, write reviews, build lists, and share their passion for cinema. But there’s one simple feature that would make the platform even more powerful, personal, and useful: private notes.

Many users want a place to write thoughts that aren’t ready to become a full review — ideas, memorable scenes, quotes, themes to revisit, or reflections meant just for themselves. Right now, the only option is to publish a review publicly or save thoughts elsewhere, outside of Letterboxd.

A built-in Private Notes section for each film would allow users to:
 • jot down ideas before writing a review
 • keep personal reflections that they don’t want to share publicly
 • store memorable quotes or details for later
 • track reactions during rewatches
 • use Letterboxd more effectively as a film journal

Private Notes would be visible only to the user, keeping the platform’s social aspect intact while adding a powerful personal tool.

Letterboxd already excels at helping us remember what we watch. This feature would help us remember why it mattered — privately, thoughtfully, and in the same place we log our films.
