Add Permanent Plastic Road Indicators at 1st Ave N and Division St

The Issue

As a 16-year-old with a learner's permit, navigating the streets of Billings, MT, has been a daunting task. Recently, while coming from Broadwater Avenue, I found myself at the intersection of 1st Avenue North and Division Street. Due to the faded street paint, I mistakenly turned onto First Street which happens to be a one way in the opposite direction, narrowly avoiding a potential head-on collision. The mere thought of what could have happened is terrifying.

Billings, MT, is known for its bustling streets and busy intersections, yet the crucial markings at this intersection have degraded over time. Although the city plans to repaint this area, the delay poses a significant risk to drivers, especially those who are less experienced. The absence of clear road indicators can result in confusion and accidents, endangering not only young drivers like myself but everyone on the road.

A practical and long-lasting solution is the installation of permanent plastic road indicators. These are not just durable, but they also provide clearer visibility, especially in adverse weather conditions, thereby reducing the likelihood of accidents. Many cities across the nation have implemented these indicators with great success, significantly improving road safety.

The intersection of 1st Avenue North and Division Street is a vital part of our city, connecting many local routes. It's imperative that we prioritize the safety of our community by ensuring that all road users can travel with confidence and clarity. This measure will not only protect lives but also ensure that road signage is reliable, visible, and effective at all times.

Join me in urging the City of Billings to take immediate action by signing this petition. Let's work together to make our roads safer for everyone.
