Add Pétanque/Bocce Courts to Nevada Trails Park (Clark County)

The Issue

For residents of Southwest Las Vegas, enjoying a game of pétanque is not as simple as strolling to a nearby park. Personally, I have to embark on a 30-minute drive to Lone Mountain Park just to indulge in this pastime on proper courts. All across Las Vegas, there are facilities available to play pétanque and bocce, yet the Southwestern region remains devoid of this accessible and enriching feature.

We, the undersigned residents of Southwest Las Vegas, respectfully request that Clark County Parks & Recreation add pétanque/bocce courts to Nevada Trails Park.

Southwest Las Vegas currently lacks accessible public courts, with the nearest locations a 15–30 minute drive away. This proposal addresses a clear gap in local recreational amenities.

Petanque Courts in Las Vegas

Why this matters:

  • Pétanque and bocce are:
  • Low-impact and accessible for all ages
  • Ideal for seniors, families, and casual play
  • Social, inclusive, and easy to learn
  • Quiet and low-disruption for park environments

    Why Nevada Trails Park:
  • Close to dense residential neighborhoods
  • Existing lighting and infrastructure
  • Convenient access to parking and restrooms
  • Underutilized space that can be enhanced

    What’s proposed:
  • 2–4 courts (approx. 12 ft x 80 ft each)
  • Decomposed granite surface
  • Minimal infrastructure (optional benches, signage)
  • Low maintenance requirements

Community impact:

This addition would:

  • Expand recreational options in an underserved area
  • Increase year-round park usage
  • Create a welcoming space for community gatherings
  • Support informal play, lessons, and small events
