Hello everyone- I hope you've all been well. This week, I've written a Guardian piece on why I would like to meet Nicky Morgan, to take the petition signatures to her, and to give her suggestions for women on the syllabus. You can read it here: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/nov/27/feminism-a-level-politics-nicky-morgan There is a question/criticism that keeps on coming back that I thought I would address here: Feminism was part of the political ideologies option at A2. It is not the only political ideology that the government has decided to take off the curriculum, others include anarchism and fascism, for example. There are now going to be core political theories that students will learn about. These are liberalism, socialism and conservatism. Students will be expected to learn about the key thinkers behind these theories. It is unacceptable that only one woman, Mary Wollstonecraft, is included on the list of 16. That is what I am most angry about. Not the fact that feminism has been removed, although that annoys me too, but the fact that students will be learning about 15 men and 1 woman. That is not OK. The curriculum should be as gender balanced as possible. There are women who contributed to the political theories of liberalism, socialism and conservatism. Some include: Rosa Luxemburg, Anna J. Cooper, Hannah Arendt, Germaine de Staël, Harriet Taylor Mill, Ayn Rand, Angela Davis and Assata Shakur. All it takes is a quick Google search. It is not ridiculous to ask for more women on the curriculum, which was my original ask and aim of this petition. Please do keep on signing and sharing!
