Growing up, I struggled to connect with my family and culture because I didn't speak Igbo. When I finally had the opportunity to learn, it brought me closer to my roots and allowed me to participate more fully in my community. Many others like me face similar challenges, and language barriers often prevent them from connecting with their heritage.

Igbo is spoken by over 44 million people worldwide, primarily in Nigeria (Ethnologue). Despite its significance, there are limited resources for learning Igbo online. By adding Igbo as a language course on Duolingo, we can make it accessible for millions who want to reconnect with their culture or simply learn a new language.
