I’m a blind young adult. Netflix: add audio description to my favourite show Gilmore Girls

The issue

I am a completely blind young adult living in Queensland, Australia. In my free time, among many other activities, I love watching shows and movies on streaming services like Netflix.

As a blind person, I use a service called Audio Description to enjoy programs and movies. Audio description is, essentially, an extra audio track layered over the English audio track of a movie. This track includes the original audio of the show while adding a sort of narrating voice which describes exactly what is happening and where scenes take place. The descriptions are added in between the dialogue, so I don't miss anything the characters are saying. An example of an audio description could be:

"The woman, Sarah, opens her car door hurriedly and gets in. She starts the car and types an address into the GPS system..."

I am a big fan, and by big fan I mean I watch this 7-season show multiple times a year, of the series Gilmore Girls, which follows the lives of three generations of the Gilmore family and their friends as they go through various life-changing events. I have watched this show well over ten times by now, but it does not have an audio description. I have missed so many pivotal moments of this show due to its lack of audio description on Netflix, and I would love to understand them just like anyone else could.

Just as a quick example, I was just informed that something one of the characters said to another was in a dream, but as I couldn't see it, I assumed this happened in the actual life of the character. This impacted my perception of not only that episode, but the next 10 or so as things happened after that scene that, to me, was related to what the character said.

I am calling on Netflix to add audio description to this series, and if you sign you could help me and any other blind people who are missing out on important details of Gilmore Girls to no longer be in the dark (no pun intended) about what actually happens in those scenes with no dialogue.

This could not only help us to get audio description added to this show but many others in the future as Netflix begins to understand the positive impact that having access to audio description has on blind people and the way they experience and perceive television.

I would be so grateful if you would take a second out of your day to sign up and make the Gilmore Girls viewing experience accessible for all.
