The Issue
Every student knows the frustration of seeing those dreaded 'missing' labels in the Skyward system. It’s demoralizing and affects our motivation. Sometimes, we’ve done the work, turned in our assignments, but because they haven’t been graded yet, they appear as missing. This can cause unnecessary stress for students and parents alike, especially when committed students like my friends and I are making the sincere effort to complete our tasks on time.
Skyward, used widely in school districts across the country, has a chance to improve the educational experience for students. By adding a simple "Not graded" section, educators can accurately reflect the status of assignments without punishing students for delays in grading. This change can bring about a considerable improvement in communication between students, parents, and teachers, leading to an educational system that truly supports students’ academic journeys.
According to a Commonsense Media report, a majority of students experience anxiety due to academic pressures. Furthermore, failure to reflect submitted but ungraded work can lead to needless misunderstandings and miscommunications. By implementing a "Not graded" section, Skyward has the opportunity to enhance transparency and reduce this anxiety, fostering a more supportive educational environment.
The proposed change is straightforward and tech-feasible. It involves categorizing assignments not yet graded into a new section that teachers can easily update once grading is complete. Schools that have adapted similar measures report improved satisfaction among students and parents concerning academic tracking tools.
We urge the developers and decision-makers at Skyward to consider this easy yet impactful modification. Let's make our learning experience less stressful and more transparent. By creating a "Not graded" section, we can ensure that students, parents, and teachers are all on the same page.
